The Bitter Taste of LincolnHigh
Ever got bullied or made fun of 'cuz you're Asian? Well have been hit by loads of things just 'cuz i'm Asian. See my skin? It's Yellowish Brown Tan.
I have been hit by -
- fruits (apples and oranges),
- milk cartons (with the milk still in it!!),
- basketballs (do you know how much that hurs!!??)
and TODAY... I got hit by an unknown object. Well let me tell you why this "unknown object" is so significant.
See, I rarely eat lunch and even if I do, I eat in my Mandarin Teacher's classroom (not in the cafeteria). Everyday about 5-10mins before lunch is over, i will walk to my locker to get my books for my next period. Usually i go alone, but today one of my friends (Michelle) was with me.
So we walk down a ramp towards the cafeteria. There are African-Americans that hang out at the railings on the right and Hispanics that hang around on the left which is the wall. Anyways, Michelle (on my left) and I walk down the ramp and I'm lecturing her about "helping people".]
Suddenly, *PHANK* the lower left side of my head gets hit by something. Something hard. Something that had a wide surface. Something that I have never felt before. I have been hit by so many things and it felt nothing like what I have experienced.
I held the side of my head that felt like it was killing me. I froze. I couldn't move. I only felt the pain in my head. My eyes water. I start to cry. I keep holding my head. My legs feel weak and I didn't know what was going on. My eyes suddenly shut and I couldn't see a thing. I fall to the ground. I cry harder, because now that I have fallen to the ground my legs hurt too.
Michelle is holding me. She's right next to me. She keeps asking "OMG! Are you okay? Waverly?!!" and then another familiar voice. I struggle to open my eyes. It was my neighbor Janna. (My dad gives her and another girl a ride to school everyday). I couldn't hear or remember what she said by then. Another voice follows. It was a voice of a man's. It was that old man, security. He patrolled the area and he happened to be around that area when i got hit.
He comes over and asks what happened. I'm still sobbing. He talks into his walkie-talkie saying something about "a girl" "crying" "got hit by something". Then he starts talking to me going, "Miss! Miss!! Are you alright?! Do you feel dizzy??" I nod my head. "Miss! You're not going to faint are you??!!!" I shake my head. Then I hear him report, "The girl needs a wheelchair!!"
I was in too much shock to care.
He starts to help me up. I'm still crying away. I legs feel like Jell-O. Weak soft like it was going to snap. He walks me to a lunch bench and sits me down. I'm still crying. I think my face was as red as a tomato by then. My friends crowd around me and more and more supervisors come over. Within 5mins there were about 6adults and 5 of my friends crowding around me. Every few seconds i feel a hand patting my back or a hand on my shoulder. It was scary. At that moment i just didn't understand what happened. It was like I had amnesia for a few minutes.
The bell rings. Lunch is over.
My friends are told to go to class and I the nurse comes with a wheelchair. I just stared at her like she came from outer space and she started asking me all kinds of questions about my head. I answer in "nods" or "shaking my head". The cafeteria is empty. I feel awkward. I look around me and all i hear is the nurse and another lady chatting away. I calm down a bit now. The nurse then asks me if i wanted to get into the wheelchair. I told her it was alright. Then she starts with the "teenage ego thing". "You afraid someone might see you eh? You look so pale too!!"
I was kinda pissed off. But i just replied "No, i feel better." They let me sit a while more and then she asks me to stand up. I stand and we walked to the Health Office.
The nurse was really nice. We talked a little about what highschool was like back in "her time". She told me an Asian guy got hit in the face by a milk carton and his face was all red and swollen. (I'm not the only victim). She asked about my name too! haha
"Is your name from a ...ummm.... "
"A book and a movie." I finish her sentence for her smiling.
"Yeah" she smiles back.
She gives me a pack of ice to put on my head. The pain still stings. I can't do much but put the ice pack on my head. She calls my mom. I imagined what my mom said over the phone. After about a minute, the nurse hands me the phone. My mom wanted to talk to me. So i told her what happened. She told me that she was coming to my school right away. She was going to see the Dean.
I hang up. I rest in the Health Office for the rest of my 5th period. Until about 10minutes before 5th period was going to end. I told the nurse i wanted to go. She said okay, gave me a pass and off i went to class.
I walk to class thinking about all the freaking long notes i would have missed all because someone hit me in the head. But thank God my teacher was absent. *phew* no need to copy notes!! One of my friend comes over and starts asking if i'm alright. I'm not even done explaining and the bell rings.
I go to my 6th (and last) period. I was almost back to normal. Still a little shocked. But right before class started i got a call and had to go to the office because my mom had arrive. I walk over to the Health Office again. My mom is inside waiting.
She talks to the nurse a little and we go to the Dean's office. The Dean is not in. We decide to head to my 6th period and explain why I would not be attending class. When my mom was done explaining, we saw my English teacher Ms. Blewitt. (Awesome teacher!!) My mom talked to her about me and my work. Then told what happened to me. Ms Blewitt starts talking like a Kung-Fu master.
"That is unacceptable!"
I always thought that was funny. But not at that momment.
Anyways she takes us to see the Assitant Principle but he was busy with lunch. =.= So we go talk to the Adminstrator. He was really nice. (Also one of the people that crowded around me.) We talked and talked and finally me went to see the school police. My mom told me she wanted to file a school AND police report. So yeah.
The bell rings once more. School ends. My mom and I walk to the car. We bump into Michelle on the way. She's concerned and starts hugging and checking me. haha I introduce her and Lily(who happened to arrive too).
We wait for Janna and my other friend. (We take them home too) They come and we started talking about what happened to me.
That's not the end of it. When i got home and was online. I got swarmed with messages. haha
Sighs.
